IHK Circularity Scouts Visit the HRW FabLab: Experiencing the Circular Economy Together

How can we make better use of resources? What happens to old products and their materials? And how can digitalization and artificial intelligence help us operate more sustainably? These are exactly the questions the Circularity Scouts are exploring today during their visit to our FabLab.
As part of #dzr I digital.zirkulär.ruhr, we’ll give participants a glimpse into our work and show them just how diverse the intersection of digitalization and the circular economy can be. It’s not just about watching—it’s primarily about discovering, trying things out, and getting involved.
During guided tours of our FabLab and the Circular Digital Economy Lab (CDEL), participants will get to know our facilities and their various areas of focus. They’ll gain insights into the technical possibilities and learn more about current approaches to digitalization and the circular economy.
Next, it’s time to get hands-on: In a recycling and upcycling workshop, participants will explore how 3D printing waste can be turned into new possibilities and how leftover materials can be reused in meaningful ways. They’ll have the chance to get creative and learn how reusing materials helps conserve resources.
Artificial intelligence is also on the agenda. In a workshop, participants will explore the possibilities offered by AI and how digital technologies can support sustainable processes.
Another workshop at CDEL focuses on product disassembly and material separation. Participants will have the opportunity to take a closer look at products. They’ll learn what materials various products are made of, how these materials can be separated from one another, and why separating materials as purely as possible by type is so important for recycling.
We look forward to welcoming the Circularity Scouts and providing them with a varied day filled with exciting insights, hands-on experiences, and new ideas related to digitalization and the circular economy.
