This was FAB24 México

Adiós Amigos and hello Germany! We are back from Mexico and are still absolutely thrilled about a great week in Puebla. The FAB24 had more surprises in store for us than we ever imagined, but only in the most positive way.
After spending a few days exploring the area around Puebla, joining the FabCity Challenge and visiting Maya Temple next door, our FabLab founder Prof. Dr. Michael Schäfer was asked if he could present our “Your Quantum Future” project at the opening ceremony. Just hours earlier, FabLab founder Neil Gershenfeld had linked several institutes and laboratories (including CERN, MIT and us) with their quantum topics and launched the idea of a Global Quantum Challenge. These are all big names and even bigger plans for the future, so it was all the more significant that we were able to introduce ourselves and give a speech.

We attended various workshops throughout the week and also gave a four-hour workshop ourselves on the topic of “QuantumMiniLabs: Building an Open Source Ecosystem for 2nd generation quantum technologies”. What surprised us was that more than 20 people came to the workshop and were enthusiastic about the topic of quantum. Kerstin took the opportunity to build her own skateboard at a workshop, which is definitely something to be proud of. Among other things, Michael learned how to make a coffee cup from coffee and Florian attended an AI workshop on PCBs.

We also get to enjoy Puebla in other ways. The food was phenomenal and everyone was very warm and welcoming. The city has a traditional Mexican look with lots of colorful houses and small stores. One evening we had the opportunity to watch a wrestling match and the karaoke bars are also worth a visit. The fashion show as part of the Fabrication Academy was great, fashion designs were shown, for example, with vegan leather made from leftover grapes.
As you can see, the possibilities in Puebla were as varied and colorful as the landscape itself. We are delighted to have been part of FAB24 and can't wait for the next one in the Czech Republic.

Muchas gracias!
