Future district Prosper III - the real laboratory for urban heat reduction

The city of Bottrop, more precisely the district office “Nachbar(schafft)Klima”, the GemeinSinnschafftGarten association and the FabLab of the Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences are changing the neighborhood.

From the colliery site to the “Prosper III district of the future”, what began as an integrative district development project is now becoming a showcase project for sustainable urban district development. With the KlimaAktiv@ProsperIII project, we are transforming a “hostile” heat island into a liveable district center.

Through a combination of fruit tree planting with seating options, smart raised beds, planting walls, rainwater harvesting, etc., we are regulating the climate of Roter Platz. By establishing a restaurant as an educational project, improving the connection to the cycle path and implementing solar-powered e-bike charging stations, the aim is to create a self-stabilizing, researching and learning district.
