The HRW FabLab as an open innovation environment for everyone
The HRW FabLab has now been in existence for more than 10 years and has grown from 20 square meters in a container to 600 square meters of attractive innovation environment. In addition to our students, we inspire numerous pupils in FabLab courses and have been open to everyone on Wednesday evenings for eight years.
Experiencing hands-on digitalization is one of our goals.
In particular, however, we are an innovation environment for numerous start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises and cooperate with other research institutions. As the world's first quantum technology FabLab, we bring together physical know-how, in-depth knowledge of electronics, computer science and industrial design. But it is only with our extensive prototype environment that applied research becomes possible.
Our goal remains to be able to produce “almost everything” ourselves without having to rely on external help and to use “digital fabrication” as a central tool for this.
Typically, our machines are designed in such a way that you can learn how to use them in a short time with our support in order to realize your own project.
For our own quality assurance and to keep up to date with the global community, we offer the FabAcademy. We are internationally renowned for being one of the few places in Germany where the FabAcademy diploma can be obtained in cooperation with MIT (Prof. Neil Gershenfeld). This is recognized with 18 CP (credit points) in the Master's degree in Computer Science (as well as at MIT).
If you as a company would like to develop innovative products together with us, we look forward to hearing your ideas.
In fact, there may even be financial support for the development of your innovation
(see MID Innovation, https://www.mittelstand-innovativ-digital.nrw/mid-gutscheine/innovationsgutschein).
